WOMEN’S TRAINING GROUP – FAQ’s

No, these fees are your obligation.

Unfortunately because of liability issues this is not possible.

No, but it is a nice perk. We recommend a trainer if you are doing an Ironman or an early season 70.3. Additionally, we will have access to indoor trainer classes this winter at Pearl Street Fitness in Wash Park.

No, however a road or tri bike is highly recommended. A mountain bike or hybrid bike with wide tires will be much slower and you will have trouble keeping up with others on the rides. An exception can be made for those participating in the Sprint group.

No, everyone is busy so you can choose what workouts fit your schedule. We do, however, highly encourage participation so you can learn from the coaches, improve technique, meet others, and enjoy the group dynamic. If you miss a workout, every group member (except Black members) will have your own specific workouts to follow.

Clinics and workouts will last approximately 1 hr 30 minutes.  Distances will vary.

We are planning on 4-6 workouts in the pool.  The group can also participate in the MHM group swims which will take place at Grant Ranch over the summer.

We have had up to 80 members. The more the merrier!

We use a NEWSLETTER format for most information. We also have a “secret” Facebook Page open ONLY to those on the TEAM. This is a great way to communicate between team members.

We suggest getting comfortable using the trail system throughout the area then moving to low traffic areas such as Cherry Creek, Chatfield, or Bear Creek State Parks.

Absolutely! This year we are offering a beginner’s group for those who are just getting into the sport. This group will have NO DROP training rides and a special group training plan for four races over seven months. The first race is an indoor triathlon in March.

No, although it is highly recommended.  TriBella rents and sells wetsuits.

Each ride will have multiple distances with most rides approximately 12-20 miles/ 20-50 miles/ 50+ miles. The Platinum, Pink, and Black group rides are drop rides, therefore, each rider is responsible for being able to read a map and change a tire. The Sprint group rides are catered to those who are unfamiliar with riding on the roads. These rides are NO DROP.

You should have access to a place to swim, a swim suit, and goggles. A working bike, preferably a road bike (this is encouraged but not necessary), helmet, and a pair of running shoes is all you really need to start training.

Prior to the ride a route map is provided which you must print. You are responsible for knowing the route.  All riders must have bikes which are in good working order, sunscreen, water, nutrition, a helmet, cell phone and tools/equipment to repair flat tires.

We suggest getting lessons prior to January. We do not teach you how to swim during the swim clinics or workshops. We have coaches with MHM who provide swim lessons at an additional cost. Please contact Coach Kathy.

Unfortunately no.  Fees are not refundable for any reason.

Winter months are very important to get a solid base on the bike; ride 2-3 times/week up to an hour.  Utilize spin classes or purchase an indoor trainer.  TriBella can assist you with a bike trainer.

Kit refers to the outfit you wear during training and racing. The TriBella/MHM kit is a custom design that will help you stand out for your cheering squad, which includes your coaches and teammates. Purchase of a kit is not a requirement but it is highly encouraged (and fun!).

Custom plans are catered to your schedule versus group plans that are not schedule oriented. For instance, custom plan athletes will tell coach Kathy what specific days they want to swim, bike  and run, whereas group plan athletes will receive a week’s worth of workouts that they must move around to fit their schedule.

Typical pace for all but the Sprint Group is 15-18 MPH. We do our best to form small groups to accommodate other speeds, however riding with someone is not guaranteed. Please come in shape (ride during the winter) for these group rides. Practicing on bike paths/roads prior to riding with a group is highly encouraged.

Depending on the weather and temperature, rides in April and May will begin between 8-9 AM. Rides in June and later will begin between 7-8 AM. We typically do not start earlier that 7 AM as a group; however, Ironman or those doing longer distances may choose to start earlier.

The Platinum group must register by January 11, 2015.  Both the Pink and Black groups will remain open until June 28, 2015.  Please note that training plans take time to develop. If you are signing up for the Pink group it could take up to 4 weeks for your workouts to appear on your training account. The coaches will develop these on a first come first served basis. You will complete an information sheet for your coach and she will make your plan.

No, it is not individual biking, it is a group ride; however, a coach is available to watch you bike and give suggestions as deemed appropriate. Group rides are great opportunities to try to find some alone time with the coaches as they ride up and back along the group.

This is not guaranteed for any BUT the Sprint group. Sprint group rides are no drop. The more riders we have come to rides the greater your chance is to find someone your pace to ride with. These are DROP RIDES. You may end up riding alone. We have many of abilities and distances to accommodate. Please consider reaching out to other riders of your pace on our private Facebook group.

Don’t count on it. You are responsible for tire changing/maintenance, knowing/following all road safely rules, etc….

We will attend local races based on the percentage of athletes racing. We will announce those races in the spring. The TriBellla/MHM tent will be at the majority of local races for 2015 but another MHM coach, aside from Kathy or Tristen, may be in attendance. We will definitely attend the TriBella Triathlon, Boulder 70.3, and Boulder Ironman.
